Vangelus Review 71 - Stealth Striker Iron Man

Musing on commissions

I think it'd be neat to offer to do full-quality multitrack editing of a 60-90 minute podcast episode for around $50. I have no idea where I'd post this. Craigslist? XD

Similarly I'd really like to be able to do editing commissions for video, via Final Cut.

What's sad is this probably sounds uber dickish, haha. If it helps, my mindset isn't pointing this at the toku/TF community, so much as internet media productions in general.

Figured out the $50 price as equating to roughly $10/hour of work and processing time, so if it further helps, this'd be juuust above minimum wage. ;)

Doubting it'll go anywhere anytime soon, but it's an idea that's been in the middle of my head for many weeks, now.

Daily Changes

'Daily Changes'
-----

My second Art106 video project. The outline for this assignment was as follows:

"Self investigation 2 : Transformation of yourself Final Cut project
You must have had many moments of your life in which you experience or desire to transform. Create a video of this transformation by using yourself as material. This transformation can be literal, metaphorical, psychological, etc. Tell us who you are. Your life story. Your fantasy and reality.
Your video consists of image and audio."

The gist of the video is the exhibition of the various transformations I undergo in day-to-day life. The real me who wakes up and goes to sleep, the confident me who takes the stage for business and entertaining others, and the helpful me who coaches and advises anybody but myself.

There were going to be others (confident me is a mix of what I am when I work, and what I am when I make videos, act, or DJ) but I wanted to keep the video punchy and shorter.

It's a very self-centred and perhaps pretentious piece, but I figure I have balanced that out somewhat by mocking myself through the content of the video. :D

There were a lot of other great projects done for this assignment, and I hope some of the others upload their creations somewhere too. It all deserves a spot on the web.

Currency

A task for a digital media art course I'm taking. Thought I'd share it. D:

ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
The assignment was to do a 30-ish-second-long video with "multiple edits and a text credit displaying your full name and the year of production" in Final Cut, based on our choice of a list of themes: Kitchen, Earth, Lost and forgotten, Equal, or Currency. I stared at them for a week and "Currency" leapt out at me earlier today while I was at the bus stop. Just in time for the deadline!

I filmed it all at my desk using a lamp and a camera over the course of about 10 minutes, after I had the idea set in my head. Thank goodness FCE's crop feature worked in tandem with SHEER UNADULTERATED LUCK with that split-screen bit at the end. :O

Colour effects were done with Colour Correction Filters. Also, the left side of the splitscreen was twice as red and shadowed as the right side, so I did a pile of minor correction slidering to try and at least match it up.

I FOUND LIVE LAB!!!!!

Okay, LAB is a finnish band I adore who never made it big, and are still recovering from a fairly painful breakup in 2005.

I have never found live audio or video of them performing in the 2+ years I've scoured the internet for it.

And I just found some on youtube. :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Vlog - The Heroic Zipdisk01 - Oct 22 2009

Trying out Swagbucks

I was cruising the webs a few days ago, and saw something about Swagbucks. Basically, you get random points for using their search engine, and if you refer people, you get points when they get points.

So, it is now my goal to acquire some kind of $5 gift card from Swagbucks, because only in the 21st century dammit.

If you want to try the site out and support my shameless goal, here's a referral link to sign up for Swagbucks:

If you want to stop me before I fall into the depths of shameless prizechasing, then...then...click it and show me how wrong I am by making me get my giftcard! >:O

Bipedal Insect Goodness.

The Vangelus ROTF Experience

Alright, for like 90% of my opinions on the film:

THE VIDEO:

Now I feel bad about my wording on the bit where I say what audience I wouldn't recommend it to. ;_; I should clarify (and kinda did with an annotation) that I don't mean "DON'T SEE IT", just that the audience in question may be disappointed.

There will probably be one more podcast to cover Alice and Soundwave primarily, but a couple of my thoughts on them are in the video. D:

WTF @ TFW - Episode 48

Booyah late release!

Last podcast before ROTF. :O

In preparation

Going to be seeing IMAX Revenge of the Fallen tomorrow night! Got some pre-movie thoughts.

Heading in to this hoping to have fun, and I expect I will.

The internet's going to be a warzone, but luckily on TFW most of that is contained in one subforum. XD

Only thing I'm not looking forward to is once again hitting a cavalcade of "Why do you like such a crap movie" from people I know who aren't as big a fanboy for cartoon robots as I am. Let me lay this out:

I've been into Transformers for about 24ish years, without any of those years-long breaks a lot of other people bring up. I've been heavily active in the online fandom since late '99.

I am seeing the movie in order to enjoy very different things than most average moviegoers and critics.

While I don't plan to defend any of the movie's likely multitudinous faults, the only thing I don't have patience for is "Man it must suck being a Transformers fan and seeing that movie, huh, since it totally ruined the soul of the franchise". I dunno why it bothers me, but whenever I get that it always makes me sigh. And the face hits the palm as I then get told all about how Transformers used to be awesome, nostalgia nostalgia, etc etc.

It annoys me because it turns me into a "snobby nerd who knows more about Transformers than you do" guy for a few seconds. XD Though I take solace in my neuroses being nice and harmless like that.

Revenge of the Fallen is not in a position to ruin Transformers. I like big robots that talk to each other. There are years of fiction and history between '86 and now. I can explain them if you want, but I admit I doubt a lot of people want to know about it.

Anyway, onto the movie, and then onto the lulz of the online discussion spectating!

Click the annotation at the end to see the actual collaboration video. :D It was way fun to put together despite my slow-as-hell editing. Dave/Simon/Andy are cool people and did some great improvisation around text that wasn't actually there.

The New Touch

Okay, I'm going to be friendlier to this one than most.

PROS
-I'm glad Stan Bush didn't re-use all the old sheet music and went for something entirely new as far as the tunes go.
-The parts of the verses where it's Stan quietly singing over the quiet sombre music really works for me.

CONS
-Rapping guy almost manages to single-handedly turn the song into a parody.
-The chorus feels like two very unlike songs have been stitched together, and it isn't working.

LULZ
-THE ENTIRE VIDEO. Smiling guitar man, befuddled rapper face, random energy wind, pulling invisible ropes...it has like 4 or 5 built-in drinking games.

WTF @ TFW - Episode 42, May 7 2009

This one is weird and late.

A part of "What We Got This Week" has also been made twice as funny thanks to the Henkei Commander dramas. XD

Fansproject - May 2009

There's drama!

Read the OVER 1000 POSTS OF LOL here!

I've gotten stirrings that some people want to know how much I'm going to turn around and start bagging on Fansproject after all my positive feedback on them at TFcon.

To you, I say: lol

This whole thing honestly doesn't make me angry. I tried really hard! But alas, I couldn't work up the rages. The only important thing that I feel is worth noting out of all of this, is that Fansproject have screwed up and really tarnished their reputation as far as exclusive/limited runs and commissions go.

They still make tres cool shiz. And I still like a lot of it. So I'm sorry to say that if I get a G3 Trailer and feel it's a good piece of garage kit, I'm going to say so.

If you're angry enough to eat FP's children and BOYCOTT THEM FOREVER!!! that's all cool and stuff, and if you're whiteknighting as hard as you can for beloved and wonderous FP that's all cool and stuff, but I hope neither of you hypothetical extremes mind too much when I mock your guys' epic thread up there. :)

It's not entirely an Audi! It's not Barricade! If you hate the movie aesthetic, you'll hate this toy!

However, you can't fault it for its engineering. This toy's -solid-, and that surprised me. If you do like the movie aesthetic, I think you'll be pleased. :D

What I'm using this blog for

Hello, I'm Vangelus from the internet. Sometimes I'm also Vange1us or Vangelus84.

My intent with this blog is to catalogue the online creative projects I'm working on. Ideally I'll post other stuff on here pertaining to my interests, too.

Anyway, here's what I'm up to on the web right now...

PODCASTING
I am heavily involved with TFW2005.com's Transformers podcast, WTF@TFW. 7 other people work on this with me as hosts and content creators. Most of the editing and post-production is done by myself.

VIDEOS
Primarily, I do videos over on YouTube. Most of my account's content consists of toy reviews, which I try to do with an added edge of entertainment and post-production. There are also convention vlogs. Soon, I hope to add more original content (It's Jimmy!) as well as somewhat generic vlogs focusing on things like movies or other pop culture.

I've also been involved in a comedic series about a character called The Milk Daddy since 2006. Those videos are hopefully going to be up on my blip.tv account soon, in much higher quality than their YouTube counterparts. The Milk Daddy is far more the effort of my longtime friend Jacob (facecaptain on YouTube).

INTERNET RADIO
Since 2005, I've been a regular online DJ for The Cape Radio Station. My show is usually on every Sunday night at 6pm Pacific (9pm Eastern), running for 3 hours. The music is pretty much a smattering from my own library. A small amount of the show consists of talk breaks between music sets, where I try to interact with in-game listeners and share my thoughts on various topics.

MUSIC
I like messing around with Garageband and posting the tres amateur results on my Acidplanet page.

WRITING AND DRAWING
Though I've not kept up with these fields very regularly, I also do some fiction writing and sketchwork. My writing is not currently collected in one place online, but some of my drawings can be seen on my deviantArt account.

Hello, World.

I am Gene.
